Managing Stress

Going through family law legal matters are often the most stressful times in our lives. Stress affects the body, as well as thoughts and emotions. Some common symptoms of stress include headaches, muscle tension or pain, chest pain, fatigue, difficulty falling asleep, restlessness, anxiety, lack of motivation or focus, irritability or anger, and sadness or depression.

How to Manage Stress

Although it’s not always possible to avoid stress, there are ways to help minimize stress. If you recognize signs of stress, the best way to manage and ease stress is to develop coping tactics such as:

  • Eat healthy
  • Getting plenty of sleep
  • Exercising
  • Avoiding controllable stressors
  • Sharing your feelings with someone trustworthy
  • Reward yourself
  • Prioritize

Making “Me” Time

Taking some time for yourself can make a world of difference, especially if you’re stuck in a rut. Here are some quick and easy things you can do to shake off the stress:

  • Go for a walk or jog
  • Stretch
  • Meditate
  • Listen to your favorite music
  • Talk to someone you care about
  • Take a bubble bath
  • Hang out with a pet
  • Just close your eyes and breathe
